VIRTUE - A virtual University for Europe
Europace 2000, Belgium
The project stands a pilot for the realization of European network for tertiary education, based on traditional universities, open and distance universities, on technology providers and telecommunications operators.
The objective consists in validating a network based on EuroISDN, for higher education through experimentations conducted on the small-scale model of 10 universities and the identification of plan for implementing a European-level network including nearly 100 universities as a pilot.
The essential elements to conduct this feasibility study are:
- Available tools and services based on EuroISDN and their relative costs;
- The concept of “Virtual University” and three conceptual models of educational services based on this network;
- A list of concrete functions for developing the network, a list of criteria for validating the pilot.
The Consorzio was involved in the validation phase that was concretised in Work Package 3.
The aim was that of studying the more appropriate conditions for a large-scale implementation of the online services delivered by the European universities and institutions dealing with higher education.
Beside the direct participation in the realization of the various project deliverables, NETTUNO produced a set of materials of the online courses of “Systems’ Theory”.
