Faculty Orientation Center
The Faculty Orientation Center (for both newly enrolled students and those already enrolled) aims to provide mentoring activities on how to use the learning platform through the creation of online learning groups, to support the organization of study across various subjects.
Through its Mentors, the Faculty Orientation Center offers both incoming and ongoing guidance services to students.
The Mentor for Incoming Orientation:
- supports new students in using the UNINETTUNO teaching and learning platform (Didactic Cyberspace) and UNINETTUNO’s psycho-pedagogical model;;
- facilitates direct contact between students and Faculty professors to help structure their study plans in relation to the academic content and technological tools provided by the University;
- promotes and strengthens each student’s individual skills in managing distance learning, navigating course content, and independently using available tools;
- reviews the educational content and materials available on the platform, checking for completeness and reporting any deficiencies to the respective professor.
The Mentor for Ongoing Orientation:
The purpose of ongoing orientation is to support students who, despite being enrolled in a Faculty degree program, do not access the teaching and learning platform (Didactic Cyberspace), do not register for classes, and do not follow the study paths.
The Mentor organizes the students receiving this service into two groups:
- students who enrolled within the past three months and have not yet registered for classes;
- students who enrolled within the past three months and, despite having registered for classes, have not continued their studies.
For the first group, the Mentor initiates specific tutoring sessions before teaching begins, based on interactive classes that explain the degree program in detail, the teaching methods, and suggest which courses to start with. These interactive classes may be followed, if needed, by individual support such as emails or phone calls.
For the second group, the Mentor provides tutoring during the teaching period. Students who have not accessed the platform or have only watched a few video lectures are either enrolled in an interactive class or contacted directly via email or phone.

Counselling Center
Psychological Counselling Center
Through its academic psychological support services, the University aims on the one hand to promote students’ active role in developing personalized study strategies aligned with their goals and aspirations, and on the other hand to help them manage specific vulnerabilities and enhance their internal resources to cope with difficulties that may evoke feelings of helplessness or inadequacy regarding their academic achievements (Gore, 2008).
Based on these premises, in 2010 the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO launched Italy’s first center for psychological evaluation and support dedicated to students enrolled in distance learning programs. Developed from a psychodynamic perspective (Giannakoulas, Fizzarotti Selvaggi, 2003), the Center is part of UNINETTUNO’s educational model, which places students’ needs at the core of a continuous and dynamic interaction between learners and teachers (Garito, 2002).
The service has a specific scope and does not aim to provide therapy. Rather, it offers guidance and clarification to explore the interaction between learning processes and emotional regulation (Ferraro, Peterlli, 2000). This function is carried out through a brief intervention consisting of four meetings plus one follow-up session. These meetings may be either unstructured conversations (though still consistent with the psychodynamic model of reference) or more structured sessions, as outlined in a synoptic framework of the clinical model that inspires the center and its proposed process for users.
The Center as a Third Mission Service
Third Mission activities are becoming increasingly important within universities and faculties, based on clear guidelines from the Ministry of University and Research and ANVUR (for key regulatory references, see:
https://www.anvur.it/attivita/temi/riferimenti-normativi/
The Psychological Counselling Center fully aligns with ministerial recommendations and addresses local community needs for support services aimed at students, their families, and individuals in difficulty in general. For this reason, the Center operates on two levels
:
- On one hand, it serves primarily UNINETTUNO students and those planning to enroll in any Faculty (this service is free for UNINETTUNO students);
- On the other hand, it is open to anyone experiencing emotional distress (including non-students) who requests assistance (in this case, a fee may apply).
These activities — available via phone, video conferencing, or in person — may also be offered on a contract basis to institutions (e.g., schools, educational agencies, associations) or individuals, in line with Third Mission regulations.
