Faculty Orientation Center

The Faculty Orientation Center — designed both for newly enrolled students and for those already attending — offers mentoring support on how to use the online learning platform, mainly through the creation of online study groups to help students organise their study across various subjects.
Through its dedicated Mentors, the Faculty Orientation Center provides two types of support services: initial orientation for new students and ongoing academic guidance throughout your studies.

The Faculty Mentor for Initial Orientation:

  • supports new students in using the UNINETTUNO teaching and learning platform (Didactic Cyberspace) and understanding the university’s psycho-pedagogical model;
  • facilitates direct contact between students and Faculty professors, helping students organise their study plans in relation to course content and the digital tools provided by the University;
  • promotes and strengthens each student’s ability to manage online learning independently, navigate course content, and make effective use of available tools;
  • monitors the course materials available on the platform, checking for completeness and reporting any missing content to the appropriate professor.

The Faculty Mentor for Ongoing Orientation (in itinere):

The purpose of ongoing orientation is to support students who, although enrolled in a Faculty degree program, do not access the teaching and learning platform (Didactic Cyberspace), do not enroll in course classes, and do not follow their study paths.

The Mentor organizes the students receiving this support into two groups:

  • students who enrolled within the last three months and have not yet enrolled in any course classes;
  • students who enrolled within the last three months and, although enrolled in classes, have not continued their studies.

For the first group, the Mentor offers specific tutoring sessions before the delivery period begins. These are conducted through interactive classes that explain the degree program in detail, describe how the delivery model works, and provide suggestions on which courses to start with. If necessary, these sessions are followed by individual support via email or phone.

For the second group, the Mentor offers tutoring during the delivery period.

Students who have not accessed the platform or have only watched a few video lessons are invited to attend an interactive class or are contacted directly via email or phone.

Counselling Center

Psychological Counselling Center

Psychological support within the academic context aims, on the one hand, to help students take an active role in their studies—developing strategies that match their own success criteria and aspirations. On the other, to strengthen their ability to manage areas of vulnerability and activate personal resources when facing specific difficulties that may trigger feelings of helplessness or inadequacy in achieving their goals (Gore, 2008).

Based on these premises, in 2010 the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO launched Italy’s first center dedicated to psychological assessment and support for students who choose distance learning. Established with a psychodynamic orientation (Giannakoulas & Fizzarotti Selvaggi, 2003), the Center forms an integral part of UNINETTUNO’s educational project, which places students’ needs at the heart of its psycho-pedagogical model in a continuous and dynamic interaction between learner and teacher (Garito, 2002).

The Service has a distinct goal: it is not a therapeutic clinic but a space for orientation and clarification, designed to explore how learning processes interact with emotional regulation (Ferraro & Peterlli, 2000). Support is offered in a short pathway of four sessions plus one follow-up meeting. These sessions may take the form of unstructured conversations—always consistent with the guiding psychodynamic model—or they may be organized into more structured programs, as outlined in the synoptic framework of the clinical model that inspires the Center and the pathway offered to users.

The Center as a Third Mission Service

Third Mission activities are gaining increasing importance within universities and faculties, in accordance with specific guidelines from the Italian Ministry of University and Research and ANVUR (see here for the main regulatory references: ANVUR – Third Mission).

The Psychological Counselling Center has been developed in full alignment with these ministerial directives and in response to direct demands from the community for greater support to university students, their families, and individuals experiencing emotional difficulties.

For this reason, the Center operates on two levels:

  • it primarily supports students of the University and prospective students from any Faculty (the service is free for Uninettuno students);
  • it also offers assistance to anyone experiencing emotional distress, even those not enrolled at the University (a fee is required in these cases).

These services — available via phone, videoconference, or in person — can also be provided to external institutions (schools, educational agencies, associations, etc.) or private individuals, under a fee-based model, as permitted by Third Mission regulations.

Contact Information

The Counselling Center is located in Rome at the University’s main office, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, no. 39, 4th floor (Office within the Faculty of Psychology).
