The Sociology of Communication course is a basic course to learn necessary skills preliminary professional media and communication. The course describes studies, analyses, theories, paradigms of the sociology of cultural and communicative processes. |

Objectives |
The Sociology of Communication course aims to provide the basic knowledge about communication’s theories and media to form the profile of a communication professional. During the lessons the student will acquire the skills to understand and analyze communication as a complex social phenomenon: at the end of the course the student will be able to master the basic concepts of the sociology of communication from the theoretical and empirical point of view. |
Program |
Each lesson analyzes the system of relationships between individuals, society, media and culture and it is dedicated to a key issue of the sociology of communication studies and: concept of communication and information; interpersonal communication; media communication; effects of communication; environments and ecosystems of contemporary communication; media and public research. These issues will be studied through the main theoretical perspectives: Critical Theory, Toronto School, Two-stage communication flow, Uses and gratifications, Cultural & Audience studies. |

The course is accompanied by:
- Obligatory self-evaluation exercises;
- Optional exercises.
The result of the exercises does not affect neither on the admission requirements for the exam, nor on the final evaluation of the exam; they constitute a tool for the student to test (even independently) his own level of preparation. |
