Course description

This module provides a managerial perspective to managing information systems in the health sector.
It also examines the role and contribution of information systems to organisational health strategy.
The module also develops the understanding of the development and implementation of information systems and focuses on:
The Essence of Information Systems, Strategic Information Systems, Information Systems Initiation and Development, The Value and Specificity of Information Systems in the health sector.

Objectives

This course aims:

  • to provide students with the opportunity to study information systems in the health sector in greater detail
  • to instruct students in the core theoretical aspects of IT whilst providing the requisite practical skills and expertise to enable more effective contribution to IT design, development and procurement
  • to enable a full understanding of the operational and strategic impact of IT in health organisations
  • to enable students to explore the underlying reasons why IT is a complex multidisciplinary process, its theoretical foundations and its linkages to health management decision making and control.
