UNINETTUNO has made of internationalization one of the most relevant strategies. In a few years, the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO succeeded in having among its enrolled students people from +163 different countries of the world, giving to its own identity a really global character.

There is a large number of international agreements with universities and ministries of different countries of the world: in Europe (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vatican City, France, Georgia, Greece, Kosovo, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, Spain, UK etc.); in the United State, in Latin America (Colombia, Ecuador), in Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Somalia, Tunisia), in Asia (China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Singapore), in Russia, in the Arab Emirates (Dubai), in Iraq. Agreements to create, harmonize and share curricula enabling students to earn a degree, recognized in their country of origin, in Italy, and in Europe, were concluded with many countries of the Arab World. Recently, an agreement with the HBMSU of Dubai was signed aimed at developing academic cooperation and scientific research in fields of common interest, at realizing joint contents and curricula and at promoting the mobility of our respective teachers. On the same line there is the agreement signed with the Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane (Morocco).
In the process of definition of the study programs UNINETTUNO made reference to the guidelines provided for by the Bologna and Sorbonne process and by ECTS, European Credit Transfer System as it regards the programs structuring. 

In particular, all Degree courses follow the European Qualification Standards. For instance, for the design of the Psychology Study Program we took into account the standards of the EuroPsy (the European Qualification Standard for Psychologists), as it regards the scientific-disciplinary sectors and training credits to be allocated to each discipline. This process of adjustment to the international standards enables the issued study courses and titles being recognized at European level.

As it regards, instead, the partner Universities based in a country that did not join the Sorbonne and Bologna process, UNINETTUNO developed a model for the design of common curricula that has been already successfully tested. A concrete example is the one that enabled the conclusion of an agreement aimed at a double title jointly with Helwan University in Cairo,with which a joint curriculum was defined in which the Egyptian students, after the first three years, earn an Italian (and therefore European) title and, if the wish to earn an Egyptian five-year title, they integrate their curriculum with the modules envisaged in their fifth year of course.

These students have the opportunity of studying by critically interacting with their teachers and tutors as well as with other students coming from other countries of the world through regular meetings on chat-rooms, Internet-based virtual classrooms and on Second Life where they carry on assignments, write reports and are active constructors of new knowledge. Together they realized a true network of shared knowledge and concretely proved that it is possible and easy to make young people of different cultures live together with success and dignity. This process of analysis, comparison and integration among curricula can be extended to any degree course of any country
Furthermore, before obtaining their study title the Egyptian students carried out the internships in some Italian companies working in the field of technological innovation. Practice work in these companies allowed these students to acquire skills connected to the global labor market needs and this contributed to promote a qualified and self-aware emigration as well as allowing students to build a concrete dialogue among different cultures.

Another important agreement regards the activities UNINETTUNO is carrying on in Iraq in collaboration with UNIDO, Vienna: our University set up fourTechnological Poles: in Basra, Baghdad, Erbil and Thi-Qar. In these poles all new technologies – including transmitting and receiving satellite dishes – that interactively link the four Iraqi poles with the UNINETTUNO’s headquarters in Rome were installed. In these technological poles young Iraqi entrepreneurs are trained at a distance, based on UNINETTUNO psycho-pedagogic model.

Several cooperation projects with countries of Arab language and culture meant at supporting development through actions aimed at the professionalization of human resources and at democratizing the access to knowledge entailing an active involvement of their traditional universities were implemented.

Of course, having realized an educational platform, which is unique in the world, in five languages (Italian, English, French, Arabic and Greek) and ready for delivering educational contents in further languages, made international relations much easier. Even the decision of not relying on the mere “translation” of the contents produced by the lecturers of the Italian universities, but, on the contrary, to involve the best lecturers coming from various universities of the world – giving them the opportunity of preparing contents of the various courses in their own language – greatly helped internationalization.

Students and teachers come from several countries of the world, not only from the European and U.S. universities, but also from the universities of the Arab World countries, such as Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. Many university professors coming from these countries, selected by special scientific committees according to their publications’ international relevance, delivered and are delivering their courses in the platform of the International Telematic University UNINETTUNO.
The courses of some faculties, such as engineering, are delivered in Arabic, French, English and Italian and other faculties are developing their contents also in English and the master’s courses are already available in English and some of them also in Greek. This choice was made to make linguistic diversity become an element of cultural strength as well as to respect the different cultures of origin of the students. Additionally, this linguistic variety allows to access information and share it, to build one’s own knowledge no longer only according to a local, but also to a global perspective, to find out that some problems can be better overcome by working jointly with people having different cultural backgrounds.
