Computer Engineering

The Three-Year Degree Course in Computer Engineering aims at training a professional with the expertise in Information Engineering, who is able to operate in the planning, development, use, and management of applications and computer systems, computer networks, electronic computers and data bases.

The graduate in Computer Engineering:

  • Will know properly the methodological and operational aspects of mathematics and other basic sciences and to be able to use this knowledge to interpret and describe engineering problems;
  • Will know properly the methodological and operational aspects of the engineering sciences in general, and a specific filed of computer engineering in particular, in which they will be able to identify, formulate and solve problems, using updated methods, techniques and tools;
  • Will be able to use techniques and tools for the design of components, systems and processes;
  • Will be able to conduct experiments; analyse and interpret the data;
  • Will be able to understand the impact of engineering solutions in the social and physical-environmental contexts;
  • Will know their own professional and ethical responsibilities;
  • Will understand the business context and the enterprise culture in its economic, managerial and organisational aspects;
  • Will know contemporary contexts;
  • Will have social and decision-making skills;
  • Will be able to communicate effectively, in written and oral form, in at least one language of the European Union, in addition to Italian;
  • Will possess the basic cognitive tools for the continuous updating of their own knowledge.

The graduates of this degree class will also possess the knowledge required to carry out professional activities in different areas, performing activities such as design, production, management and organisation, assistance to technical and commercial facilities, risk analysis, security management in the phase of prevention and emergency, in the freelance, manufacturing or service sectors, as well as in public administration. In particular, the professionalism of the graduates are defined in relation to the different fields of application, typical for this degree class.

In order to achieve these objectives and promote an interdisciplinary approach, the training program aims at providing a wide spectrum of methodological skills and techniques in the field of computer engineering for the purpose of preparing a professional with high degree of flexibility and adaptation to the market requests.

Furthermore, the graduates have a solid preparation in mathematics and physics in order to provide students with tools and scientific methodologies that ensure the ability to face, analyse, and formalise the engineering problems rigorously.

The objective of the training program is to meet opposite needs that on the one hand require a scientific and methodological preparation, on the other hand have to provide for the creation of professionals with high level of technical and specialised preparation.

For this reason, the program envisages a deepening of the basic modules and specific transversal modules (that provide a methodological preparation to analyse and model complex engineering problems), and an offer of specialised teachings, allowed giving a characterisation to the graduate in Computer Engineering, presenting the methodologies and technical and application solutions in specific sectors.

In addition to the deepening of mathematics and physics, the training program provides transversal computer skills, studying the analysis of algorithms and programming. Furthermore, a common basis of knowledge in the field of Information Engineering is envisaged. This knowledge is related to electronics, electrical communications, modelling and control of dynamic systems and architecture of the processing systems.  Moreover, the program includes allied subjects that provide the methodologies of electrical engineering and basics of economics and business administration. Given the fact that the knowledge of the English language is essential for an engineer, to know how to write and speak in English, especially about topics in the technical field, is a learning objective for all graduates.

With regard to the specialised knowledge, the following aspects will be examined: 1) information processing systems, providing arguments regarding the theoretical and practical aspects of operating systems, 2) database design and management, 3) software and computer network design; 4) design techniques and control systems technologies, 5) design of digital devices and related software; 6) problems connected to the electronic measurements, design criteria, and analysis of electronic analogue and digital circuits; 7) technologies of networks and telecommunications systems.

Within the framework of the Program it will be possible to envisage internships and company visits for the students who can carry out activities through physical presence. Moreover, it will be possible to include some seminars, organised at distances due to the UNINETTUNO’s technologies.

Finally, the thesis will be the moment of synthesis, when students, under the supervision of one or more professors of the Faculty, will develop a final work on the basis of knowledge acquired throughout their course of study. The thesis can have theoretical or experimental nature, and can be done in the companies and research centres that have agreements with the University.
