Calcolatori elettronici I

CFU: 6
Lingua contenuti:Inglese
Descrizione dell'insegnamento
The course of Computer Architecture and Digital System Design makes allows us to understand the basic functioning of various types of electronic computers and their subsystems. It also provides the student with the basic notions of digital circuit design methodologies, with particular attention to the synthesis of combinational and sequential circuits.
Prerequisiti
The contents of the course in computer science, calculus and linear algebra are considered preparatory. Electronic and electronic measurements are recommended.
Scopi
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the architecture of computing systems and of design methodologies. At the end of the course the student will have acquired in-depth skills concerning the functioning of a computer, its architecture and memory management. At the same time, it will have acquired the methodologies for the design of logic circuits of different nature and complexity.
Contenuti
The course includes a first part which deals with the main methodologies of combinatorial and sequential digital circuit design at different levels of abstraction. In the second part, the basic functioning of a computer and its architecture will be studied. In particular the course can be divided into 4 main topics: Boolean algebra and introduction to logic circuits (digital hardware, binary numbers, Boolean algebra, logic gates and Boolean functions, simplification of Boolean functions, Karnaugh maps, minimization of logic gates ), combinational circuits, design of sequential circuits (synchronous sequential circuits, registers and counters, RTL level project), programmable logic memories and devices, architecture of electronic computers (computer structure, instruction directory, output input operations, software, basic structure of a processor, introduction to the pipeline, input and output system, memory system).

Esercitazioni
The exercises will be based on the 4 macro-topics of the course and will mainly consist of the synthesis of combinational and sequential circuits.
