Course specific objectives and description of the educational path

The three-year degree course in Business, Labor and New Technologies meets, in the first place, the need to train professional profiles possessing juridical competences capable of effectively and efficiently answering the demands coming from the labor market.
Therefore, the proposed curricula are aimed at supplying differentiated professional profiles that are, however, tailored to the needs of private companies as well upon those of the public sector. Therefore, on the one hand, expertise linked to the multiple changes introduced by the digital revolution and to the problems linked to innovation and, on the other hand, the expertise related to specific sectors of intervention such as, for example, workplace safety. The educational objective is primarily that of supplying knowledge and comprehension skills at university level by using advanced textbooks and by getting to know some of the most current issues.
The degree course is aimed also at assuring the skills to apply the acquired knowledge and to show a professional attitude to work and prove to possess suitable skills for conceiving and supporting argumentations as well as to solve problems in one’s own field of study; it is also aimed at collecting and interpreting data deemed useful to establish autonomous judgments, including thinking about social and scientific issues and to supply the abilities to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialized and non-specialized counterparts.
The degree course in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law is structured on three years; the first one is aimed at supplying basic juridical knowledge and skills including also notions related to economics and business management. The further two years are aimed at assuring specific skills in different paths:

  • Enhancing the paths that are more relevant to highly-topical issues such as the protection of personal data, e-government, the digitalization of the Public Administration, business law applied to the new technologies, the control of employees through remote tools as well as penal law in information systems;
  • Implementing knowledge related to workplace security, forensics and occupational medicine, anti-discriminatory law, civil, penal and administrative responsibility of bodies in charge of safety as well as of businesses.

Expected learning results

Historical-Philosophical Area

Knowledge and understanding

The graduates in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law have to acquire knowledge and understanding skills as regards the different systems on which the evolution of the European Continent’s law is based as well as the knowledge of the basic founding principles of modern law, in particular that of the constitutional countries based on law and of the essential notions characterizing the structure of the juridical system. The graduates will possess, as well, a good knowledge and understanding skills of the basic philosophical-juridical principles including also the elements of juridical computer systems; a good knowledge of the historical evolution of the juridical systems both as regards the origin of the founding elements and as it regards the modern and current developments of the protection systems.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The graduates will have to be able to understand the concepts of positive law applying the knowledge and critical skills resulting from the interaction between the doctrinal legislative phase and the applicative-interpretative phase.
The graduates will have, in this framework, to be able to conceive and support juridical reasoning putting it into a context both as regards its historical evolution and its philosophical and ethical principles.
These knowledge and skills are acquired and assessed during the following training activities: law and new technologies and juridical history and Italy’s economic history.

Private and international area

Knowledge and understanding
The graduates will have to acquire the basic and characterizing elements of the Italian and International private law system by developing skills to understand juridical issues, concepts and notions typical of the business sector, and in particular in the:

  • Business Legal Operator path: more specifically, he will acquire the skills needed to master the regulations related to the business dimension of law even as regards those related to bonds and contracts.
  • Workplace Safety Law path : he will deepen his knowledge of the regulations and institutes of private law, trade unions’ and work law, of the right to health and worker’s safety.
  • Law of the Digital Society path: the graduate will acquire expertise focused on the application of law, both at national and international level, to the new technologies, especially as regards the protection of personal data and intellectual property.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The graduates will have to be able to apply their knowledge and understanding skills in order to analyze, describe, treat juridical questions specifically related to the private and international sector developing the ability to conceive and support juridical reasoning, to prepare juridical documents and manage databases.
These knowledge and skills are acquired and assessed during the following training activities: Institutions of Private Law, Business Law, International Law, Intellectual Property Law, Labor Law, Comparative Law of the New Technologies, Social Security Law, Workplace Safety Law, Industrial Law.

Public Sector Area

Knowledge and understanding
The graduates have to acquire knowledge and understanding skills of the principles of public and constitutional law and in particular the general system of the sources of the law at the different levels: community, state and regional.
The graduates have to acquire a good knowledge and understanding skills of the national administrative questions.

Applying knowledge and understanding
The graduate have to be able to apply their knowledge and understanding skills to analyze, describe, treat juridical questions regarding public bodies by learning about the correct working of the constitutional and administrative regulations that are currently in force.
In addition, they will also be able to interpret and apply the rules of the constitutional, community and international legal system as well as to be able to find, also by means of databases, to understand and use sources related to the public sector of the national and international law, the constitutional case law and of the European Court of Justice and the capacity to interpret national and international constitutional laws as well as the rulings of the national and international high courts.
These knowledge and skills will be acquired and assessed during the following training activities: European Community’s Law, Institutions of Public Law, Administrative Law and Public Contracts, Law of the Media and of Personal Information, Digital Administration Law, Corporate Tax Law.

Procedural Sector Area

Knowledge and understanding
The graduates will have to acquire knowledge and skills to understand juridical issues, concepts and notions of a legal operator specifically as regards the modes of implementation of the protection of the rights according to the general principles of a fair trial.
They will also know about alternative methods to settle disputes and will have to master the techniques of the new online trial.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The graduates must be able to apply their knowledge and understanding skills to analyze, describe, treat juridical questions in theirs procedural practical-applicative dimension.
In this area, the graduates have to be able to conceive and support intra-trial juridical reasoning paying particular attention to alternative methodologies to settle disputes and questions related to the online procedural law.

These knowledge and skills are acquired and assessed during the following training activities: Online Civil and Criminal Procedural Law, Organizational Models and Risk Prevention, Civil Procedural Law and Alternative Methods of Dispute Settlement.

Socio-economic Area

Knowledge and understanding

The graduate will have to acquire knowledge and fair understanding skills of the macro and micro-economic processes, especially as regards the labor market and the public sector as well as deep knowledge of the regulations of the national and international taxation system, with a focus on the aspects related to work relationships and an expertise in the court and extra-court procedures of disputes settlements as regards taxation.

The student will have to be able to use this knowledge in the sociological field to conduct critical enquiries and establish interdisciplinary connections in dealing with specific questions and problems at a theoretical as well as at an empirical level showing a fair knowledge of the sociological aspects of the labor market.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The graduate will have to be able to interpret and apply the regulations related to taxes in the national, community and international juridical system; understand the working of markets and the behavior of the stakeholders who operate in it as well as to connect the regulations system with working of economic systems; to analyze the main features of the labor market as well as be able to analyze the system of the industrial relationships especially as regards the role of the various public and private stakeholders of this system; and, finally, he has to be able to understand the aims, the settings and the effects of the law policies and of the economic policies especially as regards employment, labor market and welfare measures.

The knowledge and skills are acquired and assessed during the following training activities: Economics and Business Organization, Economics Law, Sociology of Labor Economic Processes, Anthropology of the Digital Society, Business Tax Law, Economics and Business Management, Business Finance and Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes.

Criminal Law Area

Knowledge and understanding

Knowing about the structure of the Italian criminal law, knowing about criminal cases, about the punishability of crimes and their prevention measures.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The acquired knowledge must allow to apply the institutes of the more-in-depth study specific sectors, to interpret the regulations and the related case-laws.
The knowledge and skills are acquired and assessed during the following training activities: Corporate Criminal Law, Digital Criminal Law and Digital Investigation.

Technical and Information Technology Area

Knowledge and understanding

The aim is that of supplying students with theoretical (and practical) skills to understand the multiple juridical aspects related to technical aspects in legal expertise.  More specifically, the curriculum in workplace safety law makes reference to various aspects of workplace health and work psychology, where as the curriculum in the digital businesses law will deepen issues related to the use of the Information & Communication Technology.

Applying knowledge and understanding

The graduates in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law will be able, in particular, to use basic computer tools in legal expertise and will be able to analyze the essential principles of the system of risk prevention in workplaces also as it regards the various product sectors and the different typologies of professional risks.
These knowledge and skills will be acquired and assessed during the following training activities: Work Psychology, Basic Computer Science and Methodology  for Evidence Gathering,  Occupational Medicine and Business Digital Technologies.

Making judgments

The graduates of this class will have to be able to assess, in juridical terms, the outcomes of carried out or suggested procedures, detailing their effects on a technical, economic and social basis. Their autonomy in making judgments is promoted by various tools for interaction between the professor and the student provided by UNINETTUNO’s platform and psycho-pedagogic model. The graduate acquires full autonomy of judgment and synthesis, important capacities to work effectively in a business, in a consulting company or in the Public Administration. The development of a high-level of autonomy of judgment is assured by the course contents as well as by the professor-student interaction activities made provided by UNINETTUNO’s platform and psycho-pedagogic model. Actually the courses envisage the carrying on of exercises, case studies, solving different kinds of questions according to which the student will have to assess the opportunities linked to a specific choice compared to other ones, especially as regards the issues of the digital revolution and to motivate and support a specific choice.

These exercise tools allow the student to develop a high degree of judgment autonomy both if working in private sector and in public sector positions. The assessment of the level of judgment autonomy takes place by presenting and discussing exercises, case studies, simulations, small study groups and other assessment materials based on the tools offered by UNINETTUNO’s portal (virtual classrooms, chats, forums etc.)

Communication skills

The graduates have also to be able to communicate, in clear, fluent and correct way, information, ideas, problems and solutions to these problems both to specialized and non-specialized counterparts. They have to communicate, in a clear, fluent and correct way, both the knowledge acquired from the courses and the ratio on which they are based, unambiguously. More specifically, the graduate in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law has to:

  • Be able to make decisions in the working environment he is engaged in being it a public or private one and be able to motive these decisions in correct and effective way;
  • Transfer and share the knowledge acquired in various situations he is engaged in (with colleagues of other divisions, with customers, with the Public Administration, with other corporate divisions etc.);
  • Carry on team and cooperative work;
  • Effectively communicate, in written and in oral form, on issues linked to the digital technologies for businesses;
  • Be able to carry on team work and train other employees in the digital technologies for businesses;
  • Be able to manage team work and train other employees at company level, in professional offices and in the Public Administration.

Learning skills

The graduates of this class will have, finally, to possess the cultural background required to both to learn and deepen skills in a working environment, to access specialized training paths and to learn complementary technical expertise.  At the end of his study path, the student will get aware of need for updating his own skills; for seizing the business opportunities linked to the business world; to check the material and the information flows and assess their value and correctness.

The learning skills are achieved, enhanced and check in the mid-term along the study path thanks to exercises, case studies being proposed, thematic, exchange and clarifying meetings organized through chat or virtual classroom sessions or in forums provided by UNINETTUNO’s psycho-pedagogic model and platform.  

Knowledge required for entry

The students wishing to access this course must possess a secondary high school diploma or other title earned abroad recognized as suitable for accessing a study courses equivalent to a university course. In addition, they are also required to possess a good basic cultural background, supported by a strong aptitude to abstract and sequential reasoning and by a strong ability to work on complex written texts.

To this end, immediately after the enrolment procedure, the student will be administered a test based on criteria including a set of multiple-choice questions related to the logical-formal abilities and comprehension skills of juridical text.

The test will be assessed globally and by separate sections according to the following general grading:

  • satisfactory;
  • unsatisfactory (in one of the two fields or in both fields);
  • significantly unsatisfactory (less than 20% of consistent answers in at least one field.

As regards the students who had an unsatisfactory assessment in one of the envisaged fields, the University will organize refresher courses related to the additional educational debits to be settled in the first year of course according to the modes indicated in the Didactic Regulations.

Final exam

The final exam consist in short written paper that can also summarize the results of juridical research work, of an internship or deal with previous working experiences. The paper can also have an interdisciplinary character and has to prove the completed learning progress of the student both as regards content acquisition, capacity to formulate critical thinking, of making judgments and reasoning capacities. Upon completion of the work carried on by the student – once he has understood any corrections and suggestions given by the teacher – the supervisor formulates his own assessment admitting the thesis for the final discussion. The paper must be presented by the supervisor, in a basically finalized format (even if it can be perfected) not later than 40 day before the beginning of the graduation session.

Approximately 10 days before the discussion, the candidate submits the final version of his thesis, in a paper and electronic format, including a short abstract, to the Deanship Secretariat.

The final exam consists in an introductory presentation, in which the supervisor gives an outline of the main features of the work and of the points of higher scientific interest, inviting the candidate to take the floor treating a specific profile. Any other member of the Commission, and the President in particular, can formulate his remarks and questions and, indeed, he is invited to do so.

Occupational and professional prospects envisaged or the graduates

Juridical Operator of Workplace Safety

Function in a working environment:

The graduate in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law will carry on professional activities in the public and private juridical-administrative sector, in administrations, in businesses, in the non-profit sector and in international organizations for which a specific juridical training, supplemented by a high-level skill in problem-solving even in particularly advanced technological sectors that are still unregulated, is required.

To this end, the curricula of the degree course assure, thanks to special modules characterized by appropriate methodologies, the acquisition of suitable knowledge, especially as regards the new technologies, the digitization processes and all other juridical problems related to the fast development of technological sciences.

The graduates in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law will also be able to carry on consultancy activities in the field of safety in the workplace including a specific more-in-depth study of issues related to this sector into the curricula.

The workplace safety consultant is a person outside the company who, on free-lance basis or by any other contract, entered also with companies, associations or other organizations, cooperates and supports the employer and the person in charge of the service of prevention and protection in risk assessment activities, of identification and implementation of the required safety measures and in any other activity related to safety and health in the workplace.

Competences associated to the function:

The graduate in the degree course in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law have to master the main notions related to the juridical area and the competences to apply the relevant regulations and more specifically in the private, public, procedural, criminal and international law field as well as in the institutional, economic, comparative and community field. In particular, they must be able to work in the business and labor world, in the private and public sectors, by effectively communicating, in written and oral format, the acquired skills using computer and online tools and methods.

Occupational prospects:

In general, the occupational prospects assured by the degree course in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law are a lot and of different kinds: since the graduates possess a sound basic juridical background accompanied by specific juridical expertise, they can deal with and sole problems of medium-high complexity requiring the understanding of social relations, their juridical framework and the application of the rule of law to them. Therefore, they will be able to carry on professional activities in the public and private juridical-administrative field in administrations, companies, non-profit sector and in governmental and non-governmental international organizations. By way of example, they will be able to work as professional company juridical operator, labor consultants (after being awarded the qualification to register to the relative professional bar) and person in charge of workplace safety as well as that of juridical consultant specialized in problems related to workplace safety.

Business and New Technologies Juridical Operator

Function in a working environment:

The graduates in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law will carry on professional activities in the public and private juridical-administrative sector, in administrations, in companies, in the third sector and in international organizations for which it is required a specific juridical background, accompanied by high-level problem-solving skills even in particularly advanced technological sectors that are still unregulated. To this end, the curricula of the degree course will assure, through special modules characterized by appropriate methodologies, the acquisition of suitable knowledge, especially as regards the new technologies, the digitalization processes and all juridical problems connected with the fast development of the technological sciences.

Competences associated to the function:

The graduates of the degree course in Business, Labor and New Technologies Law have to properly master the main notions related the juridical area and the competences to apply the relevant regulations and more specifically in the private, public, procedural, criminal and international law field as well as in the institutional, economic, comparative and community field. In particular, they must be able to work in the business and labor world, in the private and public sectors, by effectively communicating, in written and oral format, the acquired skills using computer and online tools and methods.

Occupational prospects:
