The Sociology of Communication course aims to provide the basic knowledge about communication’s theories and media to form the profile of a communication professional. During the lessons the student will acquire the skills to understand and analyze communication as a complex social phenomenon: at the end of the course the student will be able to master the basic concepts of the sociology of communication from the theoretical and empirical point of view.

Each lesson analyzes the system of relationships between individuals, society, media and culture and it is dedicated to a key issue of the sociology of communication studies and: concept of communication and information; interpersonal communication; media communication; effects of communication; environments and ecosystems of contemporary communication; media and public research. These issues will be studied through the main theoretical perspectives: Critical Theory, Toronto School, Two-stage communication flow, Uses and gratifications, Cultural & Audience studies.

The course is accompanied by:

- Obligatory self-evaluation exercises;

- Optional exercises.

The result of the exercises does not affect neither on the admission requirements for the exam, nor on the final evaluation of the exam; they constitute a tool for the student to test (even independently) his own level of preparation.
