Course description
The course of Contemporary History follows the political, economic, social and cultural development of the historical period of the Contemporary Era (from 1848 to the end of 2nd Millennium) to help understand of the events, processes, ideas and main interpretations of the contemporary world.
Prerequisites
Applicants are expected to know Medieval and Modern History
Objectives
While making a chronological and, above all, critical outline of the period being studied, the course aims at following the phases that characterised the Contemporary Era including its contradictions and peculiarities.

G. Sabbatucci e V. Vidotto, "Il mondo contemporaneo dal 1848 a oggi", Laterza, Roma-Bari, any edition since 2008 included. Chapters: 2, and from 4 to 31 (all included). There fore chapters 1,3,32,33,34,35,36 have only to be read.
Exercises
The exercises consist in developing (in the form of short essays) issues referring to the main questions dealt with during the course.
