Course description
Personality psychology is a discipline on the border between basic and applied psychology. Thus it represents a bridge between scientific research and practical requirements. In this perspective, the course pays particular attention to aspects mostly related to the relevance of Personality Psychology in different applicative areas
Prerequisites
We recommend the student to be in possession of the basic notions of general and developmental psychology, and to master the psychometric knowledge especially related to validation of psychological tests.
Objectives
The course aims to introduce the main topics and theoretical approaches of Psychology of Personality. The first part of the program concentrates on issues related to the description and to the genesis of the personality structures. The second part is devoted to a study of the dynamic aspects of the personality associated with the processing of knowledge, emotions, motivations and personality development. The most important tools used for the assessment of personality are presented underlining their usefulness in both in research and application areas.
Program
The course consists of 15 video-lessons that dealt with the following issues:
  • - The origins, the object of study and the main research strategies of Psychology of Personality.
  • - Individual differences and dispositional taxonomies.
  • - Factorial approaches and the model of the five factors.
  • - The study of temperament and intelligence.
  • -The biological basis of the development and functioning of personality. -Social determinants of personality.
  • -The study of sex and gender differences .
  • - The development during the lifetime of the individual and training contexts.
  • - The development and integrative perceptions of the self.
  • - The human agency, the processes of self-regulation and self-efficacy beliefs.
  • - - The personality in action in work, economic and political contexts
