Course specific objectives and description of the training path
The Second-Cycle (Master-Level) Degree in Cognitive Processes and Technologies is aimed at the acquisition of advanced theoretical and methodological knowledge in the field of psychology by adopting an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the mind-brain system, of the man-machine interaction and of human interaction in the new social environments. The adopted perspective is based on an interdisciplinary approach integrating technological and cognitive approaches allowing to gain a deeper insight into human action focusing the training provision and other training activities mainly on multimedia educational aspects and on man-machine interaction.
The training path is characterised by training experiences and significant periods of research in highly qualified laboratories in the field of multimodal interaction (cognitive interfaces, multimedia etc.) also in order to make the application of the acquired skills fully operational. Training periods in external structures are envisaged as well. In addition, the students are given the opportunity to attend courses abroad in the framework of international exchange and cooperation programmes implemented jointly with foreign universities. This study course is aimed at training Italian students to interact at an international level and at attracting students coming from other countries. Consequently, this study course will see a significant presence of lecturers coming from foreign institutions working in the Faculty.
The assessment of the acquired skills will take into account theoretical as well as operational skills achieved by the students also within the courses integrated by more disciplines.

The attainment of these training objectives will be assessed through exams regarding each module of the degree course and the approval of the activities carried on in the laboratories.
This study course will supply learning and meta-cognitive skills required for further learning within future studies as well as within the professional role that can be largely autonomous.
The acquisition of these skills is assessed through an assessment laboratory activities, through the final assessment of the training activities as well as through an individual work carried out by the student under the supervision of a professor for the preparation and writing of the final paper.
Applying knowledge and understanding

The ability to apply the acquired knowledge is assessed through exams on the relative modules, the assessment of laboratory activities, the final assessment of the training activities as well as the individual work carried on by the student under the supervision of a professor for the preparation and writing of the final paper.
The course supplies the conceptual and operational tools for integrating heterogeneous knowledge related to man-machine system and to formulate hypotheses and connect empirical surveys in the framework of cognitive processes and of communication systems.
These competences will be assessed through the ability to illustrate in critical way during the exams, and during the final exam in particular, the various theoretical perspectives referring to the various specific issues treated.
At the completion of the course the master-level graduate in “Cognitive Processes and Technologies” will be able to communicate his own results and conclusions to a public of specialists and non-specialists in a clear and detailed way also in terms of the specific disciplinary lexicons.
The attainment of these communication skills will be assessed through exams, seminars envisaging an active role on the students’ part and the discussion of the final paper.
Knowledge required on entry
The applications will be undergo a comparative assessment of the curricula and of the titles of the applicants. Additional exams may also be proposed to check the required specific knowledge.
The assessment of the personal knowledge will be carried on further to competition-based procedure taking into account the past study qualifications and experience and, if not adequate, further to a specific exam. This form of programmed access is envisaged in detail by the didactic regulations of course of study establishing the criteria for assessing the past path and the modes and contents of the exams.
The access to the second-cycle degree course in “Cognitive Processes and Technologies” is subject to check of the following requirements:
The possession of these requirements will be checked through a curricular screening and evaluation of the student’s personal knowledge according to the modes established by the didactic regulations of the study course.
Characteristic of the final exam
In order to obtain the second-cycle degree the student has to have acquired 120 training credits, including those of the final exam.
Within the proposed path the final exam represents a double-value educational event. On the one hand, it allows to check the attainment or not of abilities of meta-cognitive thinking about the acquired knowledge and the possibility of its application in a context of empirical research in the fields of language technologies, man-machine interaction and development of interfaces.
On the other hand, it allows to assess the attainment or not of a sufficient level of autonomy in formulating, writing and discussing a scientific text. The text consists in the presentation and discussion of a written paper that is prepared by the student under the direction of the a supervisor.
The criteria for establishing the composition of the final exam commission, of the application modalities and awarding of the degree grades, that is expressed in 110/110 with honours, if applicable, will be established by the didactic regulations of the degree course.
