EADTU - European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (NL - Paesi Bassi)

L’EADTU è l’associazione maggiormente rappresentativa in Europa di educazione a distanza e e-learning. La sua base di associati conta attualmente 25 membri e comprende università e consorzio prestigiosi, dedicati alla formazione permanente flessibile e aperta e consorzi di oltre ventuno diversi paesi, che si rivolgono a gruppi target fuori sede con una qualità accreditata. Sono membri dell’EADTU università dedicate a gruppi target fuori sede, che utilizzano metodi di educazione a distanza e orientamento allo studio sistemico, per la maggior parte in centri di studio regionali e come organizzazioni comprendenti consorzi universitari con studenti in sede, ma danno priorità anche all’offerta di corsi di studio a studenti fuori sede. La struttura europea dell’EADTU è estensiva e fa leva su rapporti diretti con funzionari accademici a livello locale. L’EADTU ha la leadership effettiva. Nel corso degli ultimi anni l’EADTU ha assunto il ruolo di coordinamento e valorizzazione di diversi progetti europei. La rete EADTU è eccellente per raggiungere tale fine: copre l’Unione Europea e molti paesi dell’Europa Centro-Orientale (CEEC). L’EADTU ha assunto il ruolo trans-nazionale di promozione dell’Apprendimento Aperto e Flessibile (Lifelong Open and Flexible - LOF) e ha rafforzato programmi di formazione continua, e-learning, controllo qualità e processi di accreditamento.

Open Universiteit Nederland acts de facto and de jure also as the open university for the Flemish speaking part of Belgium, the regions Flanders and Brussels.

UNED - Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (ES – Spagna)


L’UNED è stata istituita nel 1972. Si tratta di un’università spagnola istituita dal Governo Spagnolo. L’UNED offre una accesso preferenziale all’università e alla formazione avanzata per tutti coloro che, benché in grado di proseguire studi superiori, non possono frequentare corsi in presenza per motivi di lavoro, finanziari, logistici e simili. L’UNED applica le tecniche e l’esperienza della formazione a distanza e innova tramite nuovi modelli educativi con l’obiettivo di rivolgersi a studenti e università e istituzioni con cui intrattiene rapporti di collaborazione. L’UNED attua e sviluppa programmi di formazione avanzata e di aggiornamento culturale e professionale. I corsi dell’UNED sono erogati a distanza per gli studenti di tutto il mondo. Tra i centri all’estero ci sono: Argentina, Belgio, Brasile, Guinea Equatoriale, Giappone, Marocco, e Stati Uniti. L’UNED ha oltre 180.000 studenti iscritti negli anni 2003-2004. Oggi l’UNED offre corsi universitari in 22 diversi campi come le scienze umane, le scienze sociali, la fisica, la matematica, la chimica, l’ingegneria e l’informatica. Gli studi universitari sono integrati da studi post-universitari e di dottorato. L’UNED offre anche corsi post-laurea come Master e corsi di specializzazione per coloro che hanno terminato i corsi universitari e vogliono continuare a studiare (cioè formazione permanente). L’UNED coopera e collabora attivamente con istituzioni importanti al livello internazionale come: The Global Development Learning Network (Institute of the World Bank), Organization of American States (OAS), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), e Ibero-American Association of Higher Open and Distance Learning (AIESAD). Inoltre, l’UNED è attivamente coinvolto in progetti di R&S finanziati dalla Commissione Europea (CE).

The Open University (OU) is Europe’s largest Higher Education Institution. It offers high quality university level education to people based in all countries of the EU and through partnerships, in all continents of the world. The OU supports 5,500 students across continental Western Europe and has a network of 13 country coordinators in major cities across Europe. Through open and distance learning the OU is able to reach people who would otherwise find it difficult to study and train further, but increasingly is teaching younger students who can no longer study at traditional universities, and prefer to combine work with their studies. The flexibility of the Supported Open Learning programme has also encouraged increasing participation from disabled and minority groups.   The OU’s mission is to be ‘open to people, places, methods and ideas’, and has an established Equal Opportunities Policy.

Since its foundation, in 1988, Universidade Aberta, the vocation of which is to teach large and geographically disperse audiences, has given new opportunities for higher education training around the world. Universidade Aberta, as a pioneer institution in distance higher education in Portugal and the main national centre of expertise, in the area, developed the know-how that allows it to be the biggest provider of on-line courses in the country. UAb has some considerable expertise on the field of Virtual Mobility based on its participation in the NetActice project and EduContact, among others.

AU - Anadolu University (TR - Turchia)

AU - Anadolu University
Anadolu University (AU) is a pioneer institution to solve educational problems in Turkey at a distance since 1982. AU also serves Turkish citizens living in the EU member states. The open education system offers 27 associate and bachelor degree programs. Today, 44 % of the overall on and off campus Turkish higher education students are enrolled at AU’s distance learning system.  Teaching materials are designed and prepared with the self-study format. e-Learning portal is composed of e-Practice, e-Book, e-Television, e-Exam, e-Mentoring (a/synchronous) and e-Audio Book components. Lifelong learning is one of the priorities of AU and distance education is considered as a medium to provide lifelong learning to various groups via e-Certificate Programs (17 programs in Accounting, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Finance), Second University, Turkish Language Program, Occupational Training Programs (programs for the Gendarmerie, Police Force, the armed forces, teachers in public schools and some personnel working at the Ministry of Justice), and Yunus Emre open courseware, disseminating the contents of the distance courses.
